Blackmagic Design announced price cuts for its full-frame Cinema Camera 6K and PYXIS 6K models on September 4, 2026. The announcement was useful news, but its figures were quoted in US dollars excluding duties. Blackmagic’s current regional product pages now show local list prices that differ from that historical table.
That distinction explains why a reader may see one figure in September coverage and another on Blackmagic’s website today. It does not prove that the difference is a hidden surcharge, a new camera, or a retailer error. The pages use different pricing bases.

These are the historical announcement figures reported by Newsshooter on September 4. The report says Blackmagic attributed the reduction to securing better pricing on parts. That is the company explanation as reported; Blackmagic’s dedicated announcement page was not available in the official pages checked for this article.
Why did Blackmagic lower the prices?
The reported explanation is lower parts costs. It is not evidence that a replacement camera is about to launch or that existing hardware has changed. No parts-cost breakdown was available in the sources reviewed, so we cannot assign a share of the saving to a sensor, processor or other component. A lower price alone also says nothing about a camera’s suitability for your work.
What Blackmagic lists now
Blackmagic’s current US PYXIS page lists PYXIS 6K L and EF at $2,245 and PYXIS 6K PL at $2,475. Its US Cinema Camera page lists the Cinema Camera 6K at $1,775. The site footer says its MSRP includes duties but excludes sales tax and shipping.
For India, the current Blackmagic India PYXIS page lists the L and EF versions at ₹214,800 and the PL version at ₹236,800. Those are rupee listings for that market; they are not conversions of the September US numbers. Blackmagic’s regional pages and reseller stock are the right places to check for the price you can actually order.
Why the numbers do not match
The September table and today’s regional pages are not like-for-like. The announcement was reported as excluding duties. The current US page says its MSRP includes duties and excludes sales tax and shipping. India uses rupees and its own local distribution and tax context. The evidence supports this pricing-basis distinction; it does not support guessing how much of each difference comes from duty, tax, exchange rate, timing or reseller margin.
Do not confuse the cameras
The Cinema Camera 6K is different from the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 and 6K Pro. The PYXIS 6K also comes in L, EF and PL mounts. A listing for a Pocket model, an open-box unit or a different mount is not evidence of the PYXIS or Cinema Camera price. Read the exact model name, mount, condition, warranty and included items before comparing prices.
Separate promotion: Ultra HD sale
Blackmagic’s official Ultra HD sale page describes a separate 20% promotion on selected products, limited in time and subject to stock. It lists products such as PYXIS 12K and Studio Camera 4K Pro G2. That promotion should not be merged into the September 4 6K announcement, and its end date or eligibility should be checked on the page.
What this means for a buyer
The September event is a real, dated price announcement. Current official pages show that local list prices can differ from the reported pre-duty figures. If you are checking a purchase today, use the regional Blackmagic page and an authorized reseller, confirm tax, duties, shipping, stock, warranty and mount, and save the quoted price and date. Budget separately for any lenses, recording media, extra batteries, monitoring or rigging that your chosen package does not include. Read its included-items list rather than assuming every accessory is supplied.
